The Story of the Pelisterka Brand

Like many great brands, Pelisterka is accompanied by a legend that has been passed down through generations.

According to local folklore, a beautiful shepherdess named Pelisterka lived near the village of Medžitlija. She frequently suffered from stomach discomfort and spent much of her time near a natural spring in the area. As she regularly drank the water from the spring, her health began to improve. One day, King Toljo, captivated by the beauty of Pelister and Pelagonija, met the young shepherdess. Their meeting soon blossomed into love, and Pelisterka became queen. In honor of both the woman and the extraordinary spring that restored her health, the water was named Pelisterka.

While the legend remains an important part of the brand’s identity, the documented history of Pelisterka begins in the mid-20th century. Following World War II, significant agricultural and economic development took place throughout the region. In 1953, as part of the agrarian reforms, the foundations were laid for the company that would later become Pelisterka AD.

From the very source where it originated, in Medžitlija, Pelisterka has grown into one of North Macedonia’s most recognized and respected brands. Today, modern production facilities and advanced technologies ensure the highest quality standards, producing approximately 30 million units annually.

In 2009, the company expanded its portfolio with Pelisterka Natural Mineral Water, a still water that complements its iconic naturally carbonated mineral water.

For more than six decades, Pelisterka has remained synonymous with premium mineral water, earning the distinction of being the first Macedonian water licensed for export to European markets. Today, Pelisterka proudly represents Macedonia in numerous international markets, including Bulgaria, Serbia, Albania, Kosovo, Greece, Estonia, and Australia.
